How are grief and mood swings different from being depressed?

Answered By Editor

These three issues are not associated with each other. The following explanations can help differentiate grief and mood swings from depression:

* Depression is not just a mood disorder. Depressed people are usually lacking of energy in each sense, physical, psychological and logical. People who assert to be always tired may be depressed even if they are not sad and suffering emotionally. The main symptoms may be loss of desire for food and sleeplessness, backaches, headaches, upset stomachs, constipation and constant exhaustion.

* Grief is a common feeling especially in death of a loved one. It is a mixture of sorrow, strong emotion and confusion comes from losing someone important to you. This is actually the respond to loss.

* Mood swings are a severe change of mood.
